Flowers have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a newborn pēpi, my very first stop after leaving hospital was the flower shop, where my mum — a talented florist herself — was busy preparing wedding flowers. I guess you could say flowers have always been in my blood.

With whakapapa to Ngātiwai, I feel so fortunate to have been raised on the beautiful Tūtūkākā Coast, surrounded by the moana, the whenua, and our native ngāhere — all of which continue to inspire my work with flowers.

Behind Amber Lee Florist is a small family business with many moving parts. On any given day, I might be designing florals, answering phone calls and emails, creating social media content, delivering flowers, processing fresh stock, cleaning buckets, ordering supplies, helping customers, or heading out to our small-scale flower farm.

The flower farm has become such a special part of what we do. From sowing seeds and germinating new life, to feeding soil, caring for seedlings, pruning perennials, harvesting seasonal blooms, and watching flowers grow from tiny seeds into something beautiful — there is so much love and work that happens long before a bouquet is made.

Every arrangement we create carries a little bit of that behind-the-scenes care. A mix of floristry, creativity, hard work, whānau, and connection to the whenua.

When I’m not flowering, you’ll likely find me out on the water fishing or diving with my husband, or enjoying our stunning local beaches with our tamariki.
